They're all good, but my favorite is Dancing at the Rascal Fair--although English Creek is right there.
writer Rod Millerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07466823137099536809noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8970679145299626478.post-54139121507219611892014-06-06T09:59:24.683-06:002014-06-06T09:59:24.683-06:00Great list, Rod. One thing is certain -- life's too short to read a bad book.
MichaelMichaelhttp://www.michael-zimmer.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8970679145299626478.post-87814223352685328562014-06-06T07:53:52.623-06:002014-06-06T07:53:52.623-06:00That's a fine list, Rod. Parker's westerns when he was still writing them. That man could write dialog like eavesdropping on a dusty street corner. My wife is the real consumer of good literature in our house. Every now and then she'll pass one along "You have to read". I pretty generally do what I'm told, though sometimes she's read enough passages to me I feel like I know the story without cracking the book. I digress. One author she recommends that should fit your list is Stanley Gordon Parker. He tells a great story with skill I admire as an aspiring scribbler. Blind You Ponies and To Ride A Dead Horse are two you might enjoy.
Best,
PaulPaulhttp://www.paulcolt.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8970679145299626478.post-81906598850115993462014-06-06T07:48:49.537-06:002014-06-06T07:48:49.537-06:00Ivan Doig, born in White Sulphur Springs, Montana ...Ivan Doig, born in White Sulphur Springs, Montana to a family of homesteaders and ranch hands. He's probably best known for his McCaskill trilogy: "English Creek," "Dancing at the Rascal Fair," and "Ride with Me, Mariah Montana." My personal favorite is "Bucking the Sun," a historical novel centered around the construction of Fort Peck Dam in northeastern Montana. Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
